Let’s put together a few packing tips so that you can get organized, and have your checklist in hand to help in easy move.
- Clean the dirt from all the items, furniture, glassware, before packing.
- Keep your checklists close, so you’ll know the things you don’t want to pack and the things you need to keep separate from other items
- Collect or buy moving boxes. There are online resources that will send the boxes you buy directly to your home, and they don’t even charge a shipping fee. Check with your local stores to find used boxes. And if you see a new neighbor being moved to another location by a moving company, guess what? Of course, they may have few empty moving boxes!
- When packing bedrooms, you can leave clothes and soft items (such as towels) in dressing drawers. Just remember to remove all pictures, jewelry, and other small items. These can easily come out of drawers when the dressers are carried from one place to other.
- Speaking of bedrooms, some people do not know that there are boxes called wardrobe boxes. These are the perfect long boxes with a metal hook at the top to move all of your hanging clothes
- When packing toilets, laundry rooms, and kitchens, be sure to check the Do Not Pack List. This list will tell you what things you should NOT Pack. After all, I’m sure you want your ride to go smoothly and without injury or worse, explosion!
- In case you are planning to relocate all by yourself, you may be among the many people who do not know how to build a moving box properly. When making a moving box, first roll out the layers above. (This is only for new moving boxes. In used boxes, tabs are already broken to allow closing of the box after it is full) Then measure the box. Next, flip it over and close the bottom flaps (but do not interlock them). and now you’re ready to go!
- Another moving box most people do not know is a mirror box or picture box. This comes in several sizes of photo packaging, flat wall decorations, mirrors, notice boards, and large paintings. A great way to see how you can pack these items is to see a series of photos online. The box is very descriptive. Wrapping and closing is an important part.
- The most important tip to remember (in our opinion) is this: The heavier the item, the smaller the box. That means DO NOT fill big boxes with books! If you can’t move it, no one else wants it!
- Garage! You’ll try to start in one corner of the garage and work your way around until you reach the finish line !!
